Become a Foster Family

Shelter is seeking families who can open their hearts and homes to infants, preschoolers, school-age children and adolescents who are abused, neglected, dependent or in need of supervision.  Children and adolescents from problematic backgrounds need the support of concerned and loving adults who are willing to get involved.  Shelter licenses its foster families, who are trained and supported by qualified Shelter social workers.

"Don't Write Me Off" is a social marketing campaign by Foster Kids Are Our Kids, a collaboration of Illinois foster care agencies, Voices for Illinois Children, Family Support America, and WGN-TV.

In addition to a commercial promoting the campaign, WGN-TV will also air monthly news segments about successful community programs that support foster youth in their schools, homes and neighborhoods.

Additional resources for the campaign include a Web site, a toll-free call center (888-4 R KIDS 2 [888-475-4372]), print materials, and training and technical assistance support for child welfare agencies involved in the campaign.

Overall, the campaign is designed to deliver a united, well-researched core message and challenge generous, caring individuals to support their local community child welfare agenciesperhaps as donors, board members, tutors, volunteers, and/or foster parents.

To find out more, please visit the the Foster Kids Are Our Kids Web site, call toll free, or contact Project Manager Michelle Arnold at marnold@voices4kids.org or Voices for Illinois Children, 208 S. LaSalle St., Ste. 1490, Chicago IL 60604-1120.
