Become a Volunteer

Volunteers play a vital role at Shelter.  Many volunteers give of their time at the Shelter, Inc. Thrift Shops in Schaumburg and Elgin.  Others volunteer for special events, including fundraising, or provide clerical assistance in our office.

Shelter has a number of volunteer opportunities for people to make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children:

Thrift Shops.  Give one morning or afternoon a week to help sort, price and display donated items or cashier at the Shelter, Inc. Thrift Shops located in Schaumburg and Elgin.  Individuals and groups are welcome.

Charity Ball.  Volunteer an evening of your time at this premier event.  Greet and register guests, sell raffle tickets, or assist with the silent and live auctions or in the finance room.

Golf Outing.  Spend a day volunteering at our annual golf outing.  Lend a hand setting up the event, greeting and registering guests, selling raffle tickets and mulligans, or running a betting hole.

Shelter-A-Child Tag Days.  Give three hours of your time over a weekend in May to collect donations from customers at stores in your neighborhood.  Individuals, families and groups are welcome.

Holiday Gift-giving Program.  Fulfill the wishes of a child at Shelter during the holiday season.  Individuals, corporate or community groups are welcome to donate new toys and clothing for children and adolescents, from birth through age 17.

Shelter, Inc. AuxiliaryBecome a part of this innovative, creative group.  The Auxiliary is committed to supporting Shelter’s services by sponsoring and coordinating fund-raising endeavors.

Clerical.  Come into the office to work on a bulk mailing, help prepare for a fundraising event, help out at our community education seminars, or work on a special project.

5K Run/Walk 4 Kidz.  Spend a morning at our run/walk assisting with setup, registration, food, water stations or as a course marshall.  This is a great activity for families and/or groups.

Shelter’s volunteers have given their valuable time for over 30 years.
By volunteering, your gift of time will help Shelter
continue its work in the community.
