Planned Giving

Sadly, every year more children and their families are in need of our services. Your support is critical to our ability to offer and improve these vital community services for abused, neglected and dependent children and adolescents. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about how you can help.

Regardless of your financial situation, you can create your own lasting legacy by including Shelter, Inc. in your estate plans. Planned giving donations can include cash, investments, property and personal belongings.

Planned Giving

Wills:  A gift through your will or trust can continue helping Shelter, Inc.'s children long into the future.  Through your bequest, you have the opportunity to provide for new generations of children.

Charitable Gift Annuities: A gift annuity combines a future gift with an investment.  If you are living on investment income, you may receive a higher return during your lifetime by investing in the annuity program.  Your gift is tax deductible.

Life Insurance: Designate Shelter, Inc. as the beneficiary of your insurance policy and you will receive an immediate income tax deduction.

Charitable Trust: Charitable trusts come in many forms; living trusts, remainder trusts and lead trusts are some examples.  By establing a trust, you can faciliate the management and distribution of your property and other assets to help Shelter, Inc.'s children throughout your lifetime and into the future.  Your advisor will instruct you on which type of trust is most appropriate for you.

Real Estate:  Your home or other real estate can be a valuable gift to Shelter, Inc. and will provide you with tax savings on capital gains.

Stocks: Bequeathing assets, such as stocks, also avoids capital gains taxes while helping our children.

Retirement Accounts:  Many retirement plans allow you to name a charity as a beneficiary.  By naming Shelter, Inc., you can touch the lives of children far into the future.

Personal Property: Gifts do not always need to be in cash. You may bequeath personal property such as cars or art.

Many of these planned charitable donations will carry tax advantages, please consult with your professional investment advisor about which options are right for you.
