Our Mission

Helping and protecting children who are abused, neglected, dependent or in need of supervision.  We do this by:

Services

As soon as children and adolescents walk through our door, Shelter staff work to ease their pain.  During their stay, we give them the emotional and physical care they need.

bullet

24-hour availability of emergency housing services, every day of the year.

bullet

24-hour referral services, every day of the year.

bullet

Professional staff coverage, 24 hours a day.

bullet

Transportation by staff to and from the child’s own school while in placement, whenever possible.

bullet

Daily individual and group counseling, and weekly family counseling at each group home facility.

bullet

Health screening for each child by our nursing consultant within 72 hours of the child’s placement.

bullet

Physical examination for each child.

bullet

Clothing, prescription drugs, personal hygiene items, and small allowances to children from indigent families.

bullet

30- and 90-day follow-up services for each child after placement is terminated to determine how each child is doing and whether or not the family needs further assistance.

We also provide:

Recruitment, licensing, training and supervision of foster families who assist staff in making our children’s services available 24 hours a day.

bullet

Community education relating to child abuse prevention and other social problems which impact on family life.

bullet

Continuing education units for licensed social workers.

bullet

Healthy Families Program, a parenting education program for first-time parents.
