Planned Giving

A Legacy of Hope. Impact That Lasts Beyond Your Lifetime. You Decide How to Give:

  • Establish a charitable gift annuity

An IRA charitable rollover allows individuals 70½ and older to reduce their taxable income by making a gift directly from their IRA.

Next Steps

Contact your IRA administrator to request that a charitable distribution be transferred to Shelter, Inc. and provide the information below:

With a charitable beneficiary designation, you can make a future-focused gift that costs nothing today – and have the flexibility to change your beneficiary designations at any time.

Eligible Assets

Many assets can be used to make a meaningful gift to Shelter.

The following can be passed directly by beneficiary designation and not under your will:

  • IRAs and other retirement accounts
  • Life insurance policies
  • Donor-Advised Funds (will not apply to all DAFs)
  • Bank accounts (through a payable on death, or POD, designation)
  • Stock and mutual fund shares (through a transfer on death, or TOD, designation)

Next Steps

  • You name Shelter as the beneficiary of the remaining assets or proceeds at the time of your death. You can do this at the time you acquire the asset or set up the fund or account, or you can easily create or change beneficiary designations using a Change of Beneficiary form.
  • You can choose to name Shelter as you wish—as sole beneficiary, a percentage beneficiary or a contingent beneficiary.
  • Shelter will only receive assets at the time of your death.
  • You can remove or change the beneficiary designation at any point.
  • Some financial accounts or assets typically pass by will, but can pass directly to a named beneficiary if you opt to complete a form.

A DAF is like a charitable savings account, giving you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often grants are made to Shelter or other qualified nonprofits.

Next Steps

Provide your donor-advised fund administrator with the following information:

  • Name: Shelter, Inc.,
  • Tax ID: 23-7399596
  • Address: 3227 N. Wilke Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004

A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make and has a lasting impact. With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to Shelter as part of your estate plan, or you can make a bequest using the form below.
